Preemergent time

It's time for our preemergent herbicide application. We are using Barricade to control Crabgrass, Goosegrass  Poa, and Spurge. These are the weeds that gives us the most trouble.  This is a one time application that will last all season.  The sprayer holds 175 gallons of water and it takes 6 full sprayers to complete this job.  That is 1050  gallons  of water.  It takes longer to fill sprayer up than it does to spray it out.

Dead Poa

This is a shot of Poa dying in 8 fairway.  Three weeks ago we sprayed all fairways with Roundup to control Poa annua.  The picture shows we were successful.

Poa is turning yellow.  This is a very good sign.

Trimming trees #8

We are busy today limbing up trees in 8 rough.   We are leaving a big mess to clean up.  We will continue hole by hole until we get through the entire course.

First mowing of 2016

February 19, 2016  Greens were mowed for the first time.  Tim removed quite a bit of grass.  You ought to see big difference in ball roll.  What a beautiful day 70 degrees with  short sleeves shirts and shorts in the middle of February.

Tree Trimming

We have been busy Trimming trees throughout the golf course.  We have been  cutting low limbs and removing brush on the perimeter of the course.  Any wood we can salvage we cut up into fire wood the rest we chip.  The chips we use for walking paths throughout the course.  Karen uses chips to mulch the shrubs next to country club drive.  That saves a lot of  mulch.

Winter annual weed control

We have been busy spraying Fairways and Tee's with Round Up to control winter annuals.  Poa
annua (Annual Bluegrass)  is the main weed we are after.  Poa is a prolific seeder.  If we leave it unchecked we would have Poa slowly taking over our tee's and fairways. All tees will have a green tent to them when we are finished.  We are able to spray Round up on our Zoysia grass because it is dormant.  Round up only works on green leaf tissue.  It has to be absorbed by the leaf to work.
